Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)
A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a charitable giving account administered by a sponsoring 501(c)3 organization (University Impact). A DAF allows a client to make a charitable contribution to the account, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants to the charities of their choice over time. The sponsoring organization has legal control over the assets contributed; however, clients retain advisory privileges over the distribution of the funds.
Using a DAF gives clients the flexibility to separate the timing of their tax deduction from when they distribute funds to support charitable causes. Assets in a DAF can also be invested by the client’s wealth advisor for tax-free growth, leaving the client with more money to support the causes they care about.
